East Central College is getting a fresh new look with a new campus logo designed by a former student.
A new logo had been in the works for some time, said Jon Bauer, ECC spokesperson.
The Alumni Association took the lead on the project and solicited former students now working in the field of commercial art to submit logo designs.
In a survey conducted by the Alumni Association many former students indicated the logo needed to be updated.
Washington artist and former ECC instructor Larry Pogue contacted many of his former students for ideas for a new logo.
An informal committee including faculty, staff and alumni reviewed several several potential designs and made a recommendation to the president.
The contemporary design selected was created by Matt Sellmeyer, formerly of Washington.
He is employed by Schilling, Sellmeyer & Associates Inc., an advertising and marketing services firm based in Springfield.
The new logo will first appear on the college's view-books now being printed.
"This is usually the first piece of information a potential student will receive about the college," said Bauer.
The updated image of the college presented through the logo will be a valuable marketing tool, Bauer noted.
"The logo will be important to our recruitment and marketing efforts. Growth is one way to help the college gain revenue in these tight financial times," he said.
The college is pleased the new logo was designed by one of its own, Bauer said.
"It really speaks to the quality of our programs and shows our grads do good work," he added.
